Data Validation Schemas

As part of the data exchange setup process we will work with you to design your scheme validation schema. This can be defined down to the data provider level but it broadly defines the rules of what information you consider absolutely necessary from your licenced data providers to effectively manage your scheme.

Data error levels

Data errors occur where information provided to CASI does not meet your required data specification. Each item of information can be assigned an error severity rating. This rating has been assigned at a field level on a per scheme basis, but broadly the levels follow a common structure. All specified data items have been given a validation error level:

  • Level 0 – Minor data discrepancy used for reporting purposes. For example; the scheme may want to know how many email addresses or fax numbers they have and would like data suppliers to collect them but the information is not required or closely monitored.
    • No timescale for rectification
  • Level 1 – Requested non-critical information is missing or does not meet the validation schema and the scheme would like the data supplier to correct the problem. This could include contact telephone numbers or postcodes for additional sites. Generally this will cover information that may be required for scheme administration but is not critical to the certification process.
    • Example time scale for rectification 30 days
  • Level 2 – Requested critical scheme information is missing or does not meet the validation schema and should be corrected. This will include all information which the scheme requires for its day to day administration and reporting but may not effect the direct reporting of certification information to users. This may include missing postal information or contacts.
    • Example timescale for rectification 7 days
  • Level 3 – Critical data error (with save). This will include missing or incorrect data which means that the certification information can not be correctly presented to the users. Data items generating a type 3 error will be saved but may be excluded from reporting and monitoring services. The error will be logged and immediate attention by the CB should be required.
    • Example timescale for rectification 48 hours
  • Level 4 – Critical data error (no save). This will include missing or incorrect data which means that the certification information can not be correctly saved on the system. Data items generating a type 4 error will not be recorded on the CASI system. The error will be logged and immediate attention by the CB should be required.
    • Example timescale for rectification 48 hours

When data is processed by our automatic validation filters any errors are recorded and detailed validation emails are returned to the data provider. The validation emails outline any errors that have occurred and provide a mechanism to monitor how well your data provider is managing your scheme information.
